Tom earned a PhD in Biomechanics (1998) from Auburn University before entering the University of Alabama Birmingham to complete his Physical Therapy degree (2000). After teaching physical education and coaching for several years (football, basketball, track, gymnastics, swimming, and tennis), he spent most of his career (14 yrs) teaching at the university level in the area of Exercise Science. After serving as an instructor at Auburn University and as an assistant professor at University of Montevallo and Auburn University Montgomery, he opened a small family run private physical therapy practice in Montgomery, Alabama. Ford has enjoyed practicing in a variety of settings including: hospital owned inpatient/ outpatient, sports physical therapy at a university, nursing home and now in a one-on-one private practice specializing in spine care. Much of what he practices is a direct result of learning to manage his own back problems over the years. As a continuing education instructor, Tom desires to simplify spine care so that all therapists will have the competence to evaluate and treat common lumbar, sacro-ilial, and pelvic dysfunctions and to add tools to the toolbox of the more polished spine therapist.
Tom has been married to his wife Leigh for almost 20 years and they have seven children. Together they own and operate Ford Physical Therapy, LLC.
